The MENA region broke records at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2013 winning a total of 30 Lions, with Y&R Dubai going away with 14 alone making it the most awarded regional agency in Cannes history.
Tunis did swimmingly well thanks to Memac Ogilvy Label and its outstanding work for C.S De Hammam Football Club. “Mobilizing the 12th Man” won 5 Silvers and 1 Bronze Lion making it the most awarded piece of work from the region.
JWT Cairo became the first Egyptian agency to win a Gold at Cannes. They were also the only Egyptian agency to win anything this year. Even the Film categories which are usually dominated by Egyptians didn’t get a single shortlist.
Lebanese women may win the hearts of males all over the world, but their ads didn’t win anything at Cannes so better luck next year.
All in all it was a solid record-breaking showing from the region, and I think we’re all lucky to be living and working in such a forward-heading region. Ok maybe not living… especially if you’re in Saudi… or Egypt nowadays. Summer in Dubai sucks…. Yeah anyway I’d like to thank some people….
Thank you Y&R Dubai for making everyone else’s achievements look like shoelaces. I think “Pelicans” is really overrated and your Land Rover”Eating Out” campaign made me vomit a little in my mouth…. then I swallowed the vomit and felt queasy. And this won in Corporate Image huh?
I don’t know how you do it, but you do do it. Every single time. And that deserves applause. You have proven to everyone that you are the best agency around (in terms of awards) so congratulations and look forward to seeing new work.
